Q1: I am a complete beginner. Can I still take your classes?
A: Absolutely! While I often work with advanced professionals, I have 13 years of experience guiding adult learners from absolute zero to confident speakers. I will break down the pronunciation (Pinyin) and basic grammar in a way that is logical, fun, and easy to grasp.
Q2: Do I need to buy any specific textbooks?
A: It depends on your level and goals, but here is my philosophy:
For Beginners & Intermediate Learners: I recommend using a textbook as our “structural roadmap.” It ensures you master essential grammar and vocabulary systematically. However, we won’t just read page-by-page. I use the textbook as a foundation to create real-world conversations, ensuring you learn how native speakers actually talk while building a solid linguistic base.
For Advanced Learners: We go fully custom. We can dive into news articles, trending videos, podcasts, or professional documents relevant to your field.
Your Materials are Welcome: If you have specific materials you’d like to use, I am more than happy to integrate them into our lessons.
My goal is to give you the best of both worlds: the solid structure of a curriculum and the natural fluency of real-life Mandarin.
Q3: How are the online lessons conducted?
A: All sessions are conducted 1-on-1 via Google Meet. After our free discovery call, I will set up a shared digital workspace (like Google Docs) where we will keep all your customized notes, vocabulary, and feedback in one organized place.
Q4: I have a busy schedule. Are the lesson times flexible?
A: Yes, I completely understand the demanding schedules of professionals. You can book your lessons based on your availability to ensure the learning fits your life.
However, to maintain a consistent progress and respect the scheduling for all students, I have a 24-hour notice policy:
Cancellations or Rescheduling: Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance.
Late Changes: Changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be subject to the full lesson fee.
This policy helps me ensure that I can provide the highest quality service and dedicated time to every student on my calendar.
Q5: Traditional or Simplified Chinese?
A: I am proficient in both. While I personally use Traditional characters (used in Taiwan and Hong Kong) and can provide deep insights into their historical origin, I am equally comfortable teaching Simplified characters if that aligns with your goals. We can even explore the differences between the two systems to give you a more comprehensive understanding of the Sinitic world.
Q6: What payment methods do you accept?
A: To make the process seamless for international students, I accept payments via PayPal, Wise. Detailed payment instructions will be provided after our discovery call when we finalize your custom learning package.
